The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Unveil a Fresh Divinity, Calling it Their Biggest RPG Ever

The anticipation about the recent awards show has been intense, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling image of a desert monolith. The secret has now been solved. Larian Studios is developing a fresh Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was presented with a audacious trailer packed with striking imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the literal unleashing of hell.

A Different Direction

Anyone anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian stated ahead of time that a third Original Sin game to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not currently in development.

That said, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the core franchise. This choice of words hints that the team might be building a real-time experience rather than another tactical title. Currently, we can only guess, as only a teaser video is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is highly rated and many say it sparked the contemporary revival of deep computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for intricate stories, branching plots, and complex character building—traits that recently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is familiar fare, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust bestowed upon the player.

Where many modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is full of unique possibilities only possible by choosing a specific type of character with a unique decision path.

The series is also notoriously flexible, letting players to improvise in narrative and gameplay. Nearly every quest can be approached in a variety of manners, sometimes in lateral fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you heeded something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could bypass a challenge by moving environmental hazards in a inventive way.

More to Come

It is these creative systems that have cemented the series to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games in history. Now, fans can anticipate a new entry in this esteemed franchise.
